Invitation & Benefits
Membership in the International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture is open to all individuals who are engaged in critical scholarly inquiry that relates to the mission of the ISSRNC. Credentialed scholars and lay intellectuals are invited to submit applications for full membership in the society. Lay intellectuals should demonstrate their engagement in activities related to the Society’s mission of scholarly inquiry into the relationships among human beings and their diverse cultures, environments, and religious beliefs and practices.
Membership benefits include significantly reduced subscription rates to the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture, hard copies and online access), reduced registration rates at Society-hosted and co-sponsored events, unique networking opportunities, research and teaching resources, and regular newsletters regarding new developments in the field.
Members are eligible to vote for officers of the Board of Directors (President, President Elect, Secretary, and Treasurer) as well as a particular representative in the following categories: Natural Sciences (Biology, Physics, Geology, etc.); Social Sciences (Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology, etc.); Humanities (Religious Studies, Literature, Art History, Philosophy, Theology, etc.); and Interdisciplinary Studies (Environmental Studies, Women’s Studies, Urban Studies, African Studies, Cultural Studies, Latin American Studies, etc.)
Membership Types and Dues
Regular Membership – Any person having a scholarly interest in the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture shall be eligible to be a full member of the Society. Scholarly interest may be demonstrated through academic credentials (employed or affiliated with an academic or research institution) or, in the case of lay intellectuals, through a letter of motivation to the Society. Lay intellectuals should include a copy of their Curriculum Vitae, and/or relevant publications.
Regular Member fees are determined by income level:
— $25,000 or less, annual fee of $60.00
— $25,000 - $50,000, annual fee of $70.00
— $50,000 - $75,000, annual fee of $80.00
— $75,000 - $100,000, annual fee of $100.00
— Over $100,000, annual fee of $135.00
Institutional Membership – University libraries, research institutes, graduate programs and similar organizations shall be eligible to send a representative to the Society’s conferences, receive Society publications, and vote in Society assemblies. Institutional members pay $350.00.
Student Membership – Student members pay a reduced rate of $55.00 while enjoying the benefits of full membership. Membership is subject to annual verification of student status; a copy of a valid student ID card or enrollment documents must be submitted to the ISSRNC office for all student memberships.
Founding Membership – Founding members pay $260.00, which includes a regular membership rate of $135 and a charitable contribution of $125.00.
Sustaining Membership – Sustaining members pay $260.00 annually at the founding membership rate for two or more years.
Society Patron – Affirm your support of the Society’s scholarly mission by becoming a Society Patron. Society Patrons have access to all of the services and benefits offered to regular members. Donations of $2,000 or more also provide Patrons with special invitations to Society events including meals with featured speakers, waivers of registration fees at Society conferences, and all of the Society’s publications.
Honorary Members – The ISSRNC honors colleagues who have distinguished themselves through life-long scholarship and service related to the goals of the Society. The status of Honorary Member shall be conferred by the Awards Committee, with the approval of the Executive Committee, in recognition of significant contributions to the study of religion, nature, and culture and their interrelationships.

Prospective members can now join or renew online, a process that includes and requires prospective members to fill out a membership application. You will receive confirmation of your online payment after its processed automatically, and confirmation that we were able to receive, download and read your application within 5-7 business days.
If you cannot fill out the application and pay online (our preferred method), then please print and fill out the PDF, that contains the application and a payment form. Please mail the completed application with a payment in the amount indicated with the income guidelines as specified (in the prior section) to the society office at the address indicated at the bottom of the PDF document
